John Whelan heads up the IP & Technology Group at A&L Goodbody.
His practice spans commercial and contentious IP/IT and he has managed both domestic and pan-European IP litigation for leading international clients.  He has co-ordinated the IP/IT aspects of some of the largest global corporate mergers, major IP projects and IT outsourcing transactions.  Before returning to Ireland in 2003 he worked for an international law firm in London and Hong Kong.

Dr. John Cahir is a Partner in the IP & Technology Group. His practice covers both contentious and non-contentious aspects of intellectual property, information technology, data protection and pharmaceutical regulation.

John has extensive experience in advising domestic and international clients on the creation, commercialisation and enforcement of intellectual property rights both in Ireland and the European Union.  John sits on the committee of the Irish Copyright Association and the Irish branch of AIPPI and is a part-time lecturer in intellectual property law on University College Dublin’s LLM programme.

Mark Rasdale is a Partner in the IP and Technology Group. His focus is on technology development, procurement, supply and exploitation and related transactions, including systems integration, managed services, shared services, ICT and business process outsourcing. He is also involved in resolution related legal work in connection with troubled technology projects. Mark advises on general commercial transactions, intellectual property and data protection matters for a broad range of A&L Goodbody clients and is involved in strategic technology focussed legal due diligence and transitional technology services arrangements on corporate acquisitions and re-organisations.

Paula Reid is a Partner and heads up the Firm's knowledge function. She has written and spoken on the topic of knowledge management in law firms. She is the co-author with Michael Ashe QC of " Money  Laundering: Risks, Liabilities and Compliance" (FirstLaw 2007). She has advised extensively on the topic of money laundering compliance and related issues. In addition, she  has spoken on the topics of company law and corporate governance. Paula is a barrister by background and has a postgraduate degree (LLM) in commercial law.

Ciara Cullen is an Associate in the IP & Technology Group at A&L Goodbody. Ciara’s areas of specialisation include patents, trademarks, designs, and copyright law.

Ciara has experience in a wide range of intellectual property matters dealing with all forms of intellectual property rights covering a range of sectors and technologies. Her contentious experience includes acting in many patent, trade mark and copyright cases before the Irish High Court and Commercial Court. Her non-contentious experience includes advising on licences, sponsorship agreements, distribution and franchise arrangements and other intellectual property focussed transactions.

Ivan Waide is an Associate in the Corporate Department, and member of the IP & Technology Group at A&L Goodbody, based in our Belfast office. Ivan's areas of specialisation include technology, intellectual property and commercial law. Ivan has extensive experience advising domestic and international clients on mergers and acquisitions, technology transactions and commercial contracts (including IP licensing agreements and IT procurement and outsourcing) as well as data protection and information governance issues. Prior to returning to Northern Ireland in 2009, Ivan worked for eight years at international law firms in London, Munich and New York.

Davinia is a solicitor and a member of the Knowledge Team at A&L Goodbody. She is a Professional Support Lawyer in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution (LDR) Department.  Davinia supports the Firm's lawyers and clients by providing updates on legal developments and particularly on the business impact of legal changes for clients.  Davinia has experience in a wide range of LDR matters, and specialises in data protection and freedom of information law.  She contributes to the Firm's on-line Knowledge Weekly Bulletin, and the Knowledge Extranet, "ExtraLaw".

Aisling Muldowney is a member of the IP & Technology Group at A&L Goodbody. Aisling recently qualified onto the team, having studied IP law at an undergraduate level and Media law at a postgraduate level.

Having trained as a trainee solicitor with the team, Aisling has experience in both contentious and non-contentious IP matters. Her contentious experience includes a recent patent case before the Commercial Court, being part of the team who successfully sought revocation of a patent for one of the world's biggest drugs and trade mark infringement matters. Her non-contentious experience includes advising on assignment agreements, procurement, data protection and assisting with a range of transactions with an IP element. Prior to joining A&L Goodbody, she worked as a trainee with a Commissioner at the European Commission and assisted with a series of information technology policy documents, primarily related to mobile telephony.

Michelle Halton is a member of the IP & Technology Group at A&L Goodbody. Michelle went to NUI Galway where she studied IP/IT law at undergraduate level as part of her Corporate Law Degree, B. Corp Law. Michelle’s recent contentious experience includes assisting with a significant patent case which came before the Commercial Court. Her non-contentious experience includes advising on data protection issues, licences, regulatory issues and general commercial transactions.
 

About Sally Anne Hinfey

Admitted as a solicitor in Ireland in 2008, Sally-Anne has a degree (BCL) and a PhD in law from University College Dublin. Sally-Anne completed a PhD in 2007 which involved research in relation to database rights, copyright and competition law. She is a registered Irish and Community Trade Mark Agent and she also tutors students on the IP and IT law courses in the Law Society of Ireland.  

Sally-Anne advises clients on trade marks, designs, patents and copyright in contentious, non-contentious, regulatory and transactional matters. Her practice areas also include advising in relation to data protection, IT, promotions, advertising, defamation, competition law and life sciences.
